The Fort
Home of the National Museum

Generally acknowledged to be the most charming Museum anywhere in the Gulf, the Museum started life as the fort and the residence of the Sheikh of Ras al-Khaimah back in the early 19th century. It has been very carefully restored, capturing much of the traditional atmosphere. Some rooms have been preserved as they were when the fort was still occupied by HH Sheikh Saqr bin Muhammad al-Qasimi, Ruler of Ras al-Khaimah. The Museum also has one of the few working wind towers left in the UAE. On a hot afternoon visitors can relax underneath the pleasant sea breeze it catches.
