The Umm an-Nar Period is the first Period of large scale copper exploitation. The demand of copper in the large civilisations of the Indus Valley and Mesopotamia brought a steady flow of wealth and foreign goods to this area. The culture is known best for its amazing round tombs and large towers, which were the center of the settlements. Several tombs were excavated in ras al-Khaimah. Two of the largest Umm an Nar tombs were excavated in Shimal while two further tombs were excavated in Asimah and Munai. A settlement was partly excavated in Asimah while others are known from the area of Ras al-Khaimah. Most of the following finds stem from the tombs.
